Johnny Manuel is moving into the semifinals for a chance to win it all on season 12 of NBC’s popular reality competition series, “America’s Got Talent.”
The fan favorite from Flint, Michigan, found out the exciting news (along with the show’s viewers) during a live results episode on Aug. 23.
His intoxicating rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” which he had performed the night before, helped send him through to the next round.
As you can see in the clip above, Johnny performs the Broadway ballad from “Dreamgirls” with so much confidence. He stands in front of a dramatic blue water background and showcases his spectacular range and vocal control. Toward the end of the song pyrotechnics shoot off, making the performance an even greater spectacle.
Johnny’s rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” earned him a standing ovation from all four of the judges: Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell.
“I mean this as an absolute compliment, you are a diva. This is what you do so well,” praised Simon, who is notoriously the toughest judge to please. “You’ve been OK up until now, but this was your moment.”
Fans who have been keeping up with Johnny’s journey on “AGT” know that these moments mean so much to him. At age 14, he signed a recording contract only to get dropped a few years later. Now, at age 32, he’s getting his second chance at fame.
We can’t wait to see what he does next! “America’s Got Talent” returns August 29 at 8 p.m. ET.
