Music serves as a powerful leveler. Whether you are poor or rich, white or black, young or old, a beautiful piece of music can resonate with us all.

And that’s just what happened during the August 22 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” when singer/songwriter Mandy Harvey amazed the country with her original work, “Mara’s Song.” Not only did she look beautiful, but she sounded just as beautiful, which is no easy task.

You see, Mandy is deaf.

Having lost her hearing 10 years ago, Mandy is the perfect example of why many people say that music is meant to be felt. And after she was done with her performance, everyone could tell that the judges felt her music to their very core. Heidi Klum, for example, called it “raw” and “real,” and Mel B said she makes “the impossible possible” and added, “You’re like a singing angel.”

And Simon Cowell?

Well, he got very close to shedding a tear.

“Your music says it all,” Simon said softly.

And we couldn’t agree with him more.
