We’ve gotten used to artists like superstar Keith Urban pulling people of varying degrees of talent onto the stage with him. Sometimes they come from the audience, and sometimes they come from backstage. But it’s always a fun time.
However, when he brought rising country star Frankie Ballard onto the stage with him at the Great Jones County Fair in Iowa, it wasn’t just fun, it was mind-blowing!
Frankie, like Keith, is a well-respected guitar player and we, along with his legion of fans, know he can shred like a boss. But when he and Keith took on the Georgia Satellite’s “Keep Your Hands to Yourself,” he dazzled.
Keith sang the first verse of the crowd favorite, but threw the guitar solo and the second verse to Frankie. Then, he just stepped back and watched the young star shine. At one point mid-song, they even swapped guitars!
Of course, Frankie is no slouch behind the microphone either and when Keith stepped up to harmonize it had us wondering when there might be an official collaboration on a record between these two. It’s about time Keith did a guitar-driven album, much like Brad Paisley’s “Play” or Steve Wariner’s “No More Mr. Nice Guy.” From a sales perspective, these projects don’t traditionally do as well, but they sure are fun.
We’re deep into Ferris wheel and corn dog season, and Keith is heading to fairs and festivals in California, Idaho and Oregon through the end of July. He’s off to Canada in early August, but returns to the states midway through the month.
