There is just something about a country music newbie taking on a country music classic that can make you feel all warm and cozy inside, especially when that newbie is taking on Tracy Lawrence.

That’s exactly what happened during a recent segment of Grand Ole Opry’s “Radio Replay” feature, as a relative country music newcomer, Drake White, took on Tracy’s 1996 smash, “Time Marches On.”

“I’ve always been a radio nut,” Drake said in an interview before the performance. “I always have it on. I’m constantly listening. And now, with internet radio, I’m always going through different stations, you know, checking them out.”

When the Opry asked him to play the last song he heard on the radio, Drake initially had his doubts he could pull it off. But like any superstar in the making, he ended up killing it like the pro he is.

“I think I know it well enough to jam it out,” he smiled. “It was one of my grandmother’s favorite songs back in the day.”

Currently, Drake can be found on Kip Moore’s “Plead the Fifth Tour” through the end of the year. Word around Nashville is that the country hotshot is also in the studio working on music for his next album.
