If you’ve ever been to Nashville or any other major metropolitan area, you’ve probably seen those musicians on the sidewalk playing for any loose change you’ll throw in their guitar case. But you don’t usually expect to see someone you know, someone like Thomas Rhett’s singer-songwriter dad, Rhett Akins, busking for cash.

Yet he did, and it looks like he did it just to help out a fellow musician.

Rhett and fellow Peach Pickers Ben Hayslip and Dallas Davidson have been out on the road with Luke Bryan and, while in Cleveland, Rhett came across a gentleman playing on the street with a sign saying he was “working my ass off for cash.” Apparently, Rhett felt inclined to give the fella a break, so he sat in for him, performing a verse and chorus of Luke’s 2013 hit “That’s My Kind of Night.”

The mega-hit songwriter seemed to be unrecognized in spite of Luke’s manager and Ben standing nearby and shooting video. But then a handsome man in tight-fitting jeans strolled up and started dancing. That’s when the busker realized he may be dealing with professionals.

“Who in the hell is that,” he asked repeatedly as Luke showed off some dance moves.

Rhett, Ben, Dallas and Luke are all Georgia boys who frequently write together. They could be working on new music together or they could just be enjoying some guy time together on the road. Regardless, Thomas Rhett’s daddy has still got it. Maybe he should work on an album of his own!
