Before he became one of country music’s hottest rising stars, Kane Brown was a 19-year-old kid from Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a dream.
It was a dream of being a country star, a dream that took him to the audition stage of “The X Factor,” the hit TV talent search led by Simon Cowell.
His friend and former classmate Lauren Alaina had had great success on “American Idol,” so Kane decided to give it a try, ultimately landing on “The X Factor.”
And although his time at the show was short (they reportedly wanted to put him in a boy band), his audition tape is forever!
And thank you, internet, for giving us a great throwback for this beautiful day.
Ladies and gentleman, a teenaged, baby-faced Kane Brown …
This is solid gold, y’all.
“It didn’t even seem real when I first walked out there, and then Kelly just started smiling at me and that’s what got me was the smile,” Kane says in the clip.
“Kelly” would be singer Kelly Rowland, formerly of Destiny’s Child, who took a liking to Kane immediately.
She supposedly even began flirting with him during his audition, putting her leg up on the desk, and you know Kane was perfectly fine with that! He flirted right back, taking her hand as he sang to her.
When the audition was over and show producers asked him on camera how he would celebrate, he said, “Probably go clubbing.”
There you go! Sounds like a party to us.
The best thing about this video is seeing how far Kane has come in just four short years. He’s signed a major record deal, set a new Billboard chart record with Lauren, won the Rare Country Award for New Artist of the Year in 2016 and this year snagged two more Rare Country Awards nominations!
Kane is up for Male Artist of the Year and for Duet of the Year, the latter with Lauren for their smash, “What Ifs.”
Wednesday, Dec. 13 is the final day to cast your votes at RareCountryAwards.com. Be sure to tune in to the livestreamed concert event on Dec. 14 to hear the winners and see Kane perform, along with fellow nominees LANCO and RaeLynn.
