As the country music world was in the midst of mourning the tragic massacre at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Oct. 2, it was thrust into yet another tragedy that no one saw coming.

Tom Petty was placed on life support following a heart attack, and died on Oct. 2

Reports say that the music icon had been found unconscious and not breathing in his California home in full cardiac arrest. The music world immediately reacted to the shocking and sad news of his passing.


“I can’t think of an important moment in my life without an accompanying Tom Petty song,” Jason Isbell tweeted out in the minutes after the news of his death broke. “Every night we walk offstage to his music. So sad.”

Other country artists and members of the larger country music community also headed to their socials to express their sadness over Tom’s shocking death.
