Listening to Sam Hunt’s progressive sounding hits like “Breakup in a Small Town” and “Take Your Time,” you may not think he has the chops to pull off classic country. That’s why you must check out Sam’s spot-on cover of Waylon Jennings’ 1970s classic, “Belle of the Ball.”

During a private concert for radio programmers in Nashville, Sam showed off his talent for singing a straight-ahead country song. It’s a little different from the mix of speaking and singing he does in a lot of his music, but we think it will earn Sam some major points with traditional country fans.

Either way, this performance proves Sam Hunt can hang no matter what direction country radio takes in the next few years.

Be sure to watch Sam’s performance of “Heartbeat” with Carrie Underwood on the Grammy Awards Monday, Feb. 15 on CBS. He’s up for Best New Artist and Best Country Album for “Montevallo.”

Of course, Sam wowed everyone with a performance of “House Party” at the Super Bowl 50 Tailgate event earlier this month.
