It takes real talent to take a song we’ve all heard a million times before and make it totally new and original. That’s what country newcomer Brooke Eden has done with one of the most memorable pop songs of the past two decades.

Brooke’s latest single, “Act Like You Don’t,” is a warning to an old love to not come around anymore. The relationship isn’t healthy for either of them, and the lyrics reminded Brooke of a Britney Spears classic.

She writes on Facebook, “I’m a 90s kid and grew up on Britney Spears. I’ve always loved the song ‘Toxic’ and thought it’d be awesome to do a broken-down cover of it. [‘Act Like You Don’t’] was written about a toxic relationship … so this mashup just fell together and, lyrically and emotionally, made sense to me.”
