We knew that the Lionel Richie tribute would be one of the highlights of the Grammy Awards on Feb. 15. We mean, how could we not with star power such as John Legend, Demi Lovato, Tyrese and Meghan Trainor?

Oh, and of course Luke Bryan.

Luke sang Lionel’s hit “Penny Lover,” with the medley also including renditions of favorites such as “Easy,” “Hello,” “You Are,” “Brick House” and the medley ending “All Night Long.” You can watch the full performance here.

The medley fulfilled a longtime musical dream for Luke, who has long looked up to Lionel as a musical hero.

“Lionel is at the highest, highest level of my heroes musically, and now that I know him personally, he’s just an amazing man and an amazing person,” Bryan said before his performance, according to The Tennessean. “He inspires you every time you’re around him. He’s awesome.”

It was not too long ago that Bryan tried out a little Lionel on the audience on his tour.
