By now you’ve all heard about Luke and Caroline Bryan’s “Brett’s Barn”— a small sanctuary on their Nashville-area property that started because of a promise Caroline made to her niece, Sadie Brett, before she passed away at just 7 months old.

Caroline has been introducing fans and followers to the animals on the mini-farm that she and her superstar husband are creating, and she has mentioned that many of them are rescues, including “Kilo,” the white miniature horse that Caroline promised to infant Brett. Looking at the healthy and rambunctious animals, you might think that they were rescued from farms that were overflowing, or perhaps from owners who were relocating and couldn’t take them. Maybe they were even runts or had health issues. But that isn’t the case with all of them.

Meet Bumble, or “Bossy,” as Caroline calls her. On her Instagram page, Caroline says of the brown mini horse, “She’s fearless! Much to the dismay of the other animals, Bumble takes what she wants when she wants it … still working on taming that! My only guess for her aggressive behavior is a result of  living in horrible conditions.”

The photo album shows Bumble in her current condition with Caroline hand-feeding her, but as you flip back, you can see that she wasn’t always so healthy. “Bumble was days away from dying, due to starvation,” Caroline continues. “Thanks to @redemption_road_rescue, Bumble was rescued and nursed back to health.”

Warning to animal lovers, this last picture in this album is jarring.

Bumble Bryan everybody!! Bumble…aka…"Bossy"…is another mini in Brett's Barn. She's fearless! Much to the dismay of the other animals, Bumble takes what she wants when she wants it….still working on taming that! My only guess for her aggressive behavior is a result from living in horrible conditions. Bumble was days away from dying, due to starvation. Thanks to @redemption_road_rescue , Bumble was rescued and nursed back to proper health. The pictures of Bumble (previously known as China) are extremely disturbing. I can't believe my sweet mini once looked like the last picture. Thank you @redemption_road_rescue for your amazing work. Bumble will never know hunger/abuse again! She's a fighter and very much loved! #brettsbarn #brightforbrett

It’s obvious, as Caroline points out, that “Bumble will never know hunger/abuse again! She’s a fighter and very much loved.” But we can’t help but feel that in this promise they’re keeping to baby Brett, they’re finding some healing, too.
