Julianne Hough and her best friend, actress Nina Dobrev, had some fun with their wardrobe at the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7. You’ve probably seen the videos of celebrities getting on and off elevators as part of In Style magazine’s awards show coverage, but Julianne and Nina’s is by far the best we’ve seen.
In the short clip, Julianne and Nina greet each other on the elevator and immediately start complimenting each other on their stunning black dresses. Once the elevator door opens back up, we see that Julianne and Nina have actually switched dresses, with Julianne now wearing the black and silver number with an exposed mid-section and a dangerously high slit previously worn by Nina.
Now that’s a dramatic wardrobe change!
As you can see from this clip, Julianne and Nina are really close pals, and they’ve been that way since they met through their hair stylist, Riawna Capri, who cuts and colors their hair. According to E!, Julianne says of Riawna’s urging, “She’s like, ‘You guys have to meet.’ We’ve just been like joined—connected at the hip.”
Nina is definitely one of the friends Julianna calls to just talk through the things on her mind. Lately, Julianne has allowed herself to reach out to friends with her victories, as well as her setbacks. She admits she used to just gloss over her successes and wonder, “What’s next?”
In a cover story, Julianne tells “Redbook,” “I actually recently got some great news and called to tell my friends, which I never would have done before. I was like, ‘Thank you for making me feel comfortable enough to share this with you, because I’m really proud of myself and I don’t think I would have recognized that unless I’d told you.’ I want them to call me with their little victories too, because they are the best thing ever.”
That shift in her thinking has led Julianne to lay down some new ground rules when she’s hanging out with her girls.
“I’ve even told some of my close girlfriends that the next time we get together, I don’t want to hear anything negative,” Julianne explains. “I want us to build our relationships around positive things. I’m not saying that we can’t vent to each other, but friends need to support each other through good things in life, too.”
That sounds like a great policy to us, Julianne!
As for her career, Julianne says she’s now shifting her focus back to acting after spending the last few seasons as a judge on the show that made her famous, “Dancing With the Stars.” She’s taking on the role of fitness pioneer Betty Weider in the upcoming movie, “Bigger,” and the part demanded she change her body shape.
Julianne explains, “Women in that era had bigger hips and bigger busts. I don’t naturally have that hourglass shape—I’m more elongated and square, to be honest. Basically, I cut down on my cardio and was lifting a lot of weights. And if I wanted an extra bit of ice cream that day, I would eat it and it would go right to my hips.”
Her husband, hockey player Brooks Laich, is getting the benefits of Julianne’s new approach to diet and exercise.
She says, “I was FaceTiming with Brooks this morning, and I was like, ‘Look, my butt’s bigger, my boobs are bigger, my waist is smaller.’ It’s kind of nice!”
