No matter how much Jason Aldean works to maintain a normal lifestyle, there are some parts of being a country superstar that are just weird.
For example, Jason says he had to move to a new, more secluded house when his career kicked into overdrive a few years ago. His songs were becoming monster hits and his concerts were selling out in a matter of minutes. Once that happened, his neighbors started treating him and his family differently.
Jason tells “Rolling Stone,” “I had to move out of a neighborhood because every time I took my kid out to teach her how to ride a bicycle, all the neighbors would come out and want to corner me up. And my kid is sitting there on a bicycle waiting for me. Everything starts to change. You talk to people about it, and they don’t get it. I’ve had a lot of artist friends in the business that haven’t necessarily experienced the success on that level. There’s a difference in [hits] like ‘Johnny Cash’ and ‘Hicktown’ and ‘Dirt Road Anthem.’ It’s a completely different deal.”
Clearly, most of us have no idea what that kind of fame is like, but Jason’s good friend and fellow Georgia native Luke Bryan knows exactly what he’s going through. Jason and Luke became really, really famous around the same time, and Jason says they share a bond that’s hard to describe.
Says Jason, “With Luke, he and I are ones that can pick up the phone and say, ‘This is what’s going on. Have you experienced this? How would you handle that?’ Our lives and careers have been parallel. We got to go through all that stuff together. Things that a lot of people don’t understand, he and I do.”
Their friendship has also been forged through some pretty tough situations, including the breakup of Jason’s marriage and the loss of several of Luke’s close family members in the past few years.
Jason continues, “Luke has had a lot of tragedy in his family over the years. I was around for a little bit of that stuff, as a friend, to talk to him about it. We’re co-owners in businesses. We hunt together, own a company, and are looking at doing some other stuff, too. It’s been a cool friendship.”
Jason and Luke are both among the nominees for the inaugural Rare Country Awards. Voting is underway now at RareCountryAwards.com. Winners will be announced on Dec. 15, so don’t miss your chance to cast your vote!
