Jana Kramer has been silent for long enough. Now the petite, brunette country singer, who recently revealed her story of spousal abuse, is speaking out and encouraging others to join her in her crusade against domestic violence.

In a post on her Instagram page, Jana, still dressed in her “Dancing With the Stars” garb, raises her left hand to reveal that the nail on her ring finger is painted in a shade of purple polish. She explains, “1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and more than 3 million children witness it at home in the U.S. I am a survivor, myself. As a mother, I think of my own daughter—I want my daughter to know that no man should ever put their hands on her. This is why I am joining @SafeHorizon in painting my left ring fingernail purple to signify my vow against domestic violence.”

Jana goes on to challenge fellow country stars Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler, actress Sophia Bush and “Bachelorette” Kaitlyn Bristowe to join her in the campaign, along with her fans and followers.

It was just a week ago that Jana told the dark and difficult story of her first marriage to Michael Gambino. After nearly choking her to death, he was imprisoned for five years for pre-meditated attempted murder. Shortly after his release, he committed suicide. Jana has been mostly quiet, admitting she was embarrassed by the story, but since her separation from husband Michael Caussin and her participation on “Dancing With the Stars,” the singer and actress has found her voice and is inspired to be strong for her daughter, Jolie.

Jana continues to shine as one of the leading competitors on “Dancing With the Stars.” During the Oct. 17 show, she earned the season’s first perfect 40 for her Argentine tango with partner Gleb Savchenko.
