There will be many things that NASCAR fans will remember about the 2016 season – one being the absence of a certain Mr. Dale Earnhardt Jr.

As fans will remember, Dale Jr. missed 18 races during the 2016 season due to the effects of a concussion. In fact, Dale Jr. has not climbed behind the wheel of his No. 88 Chevrolet since July.

And boy, have we missed him.

Yet, all indications are that Dale will strap back in, maybe sooner than later. “We’re going to go testing this offseason,” he said during his Dirty Mo Radio podcast and reported on by “Obviously I need to get in a race car. I’d love to get in a car and go run a little bit somewhere just to shake the rust off and get some confidence. I can do the basics before we ever go to Daytona.”

Of course, Dale Jr. also has some other big things on his schedule.

“We have to squeeze it in there somewhere because I’m getting married and have my honeymoon, and I have to certainly devote proper time to [my fiancée] Amy [Reimann],” he continued. “But it’ll be no problem. … All signs point to us being in the car for Daytona.”

And that’s something we can all be thankful for right about now.
