With his often irreverent sense of humor, one might think that Blake Shelton is quite a badass rule breaker, but the fact is Blake is a pretty upright guy with a gigantic heart. He isn’t one to overtly bring on trouble. But you can’t say that about his good pal, NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler.

At least, you couldn’t when they were both a bit younger.

RELATEDIt’s unbelievable that Blake Shelton’s buddy walked away from this horrific accident

Blake, who seems to be in a bit of a nostalgic mode, shared a photo on his Instagram page of himself, fully mullet-ed, and onstage performing while Elliott sits on the edge of the stage swilling back a can of Bud. In the caption, the country star reveals, “Many, MANY years ago, Elliott Sadler tried to get me fired from a ‘no alcohol’ county fair I was playing.” He then hashtagged the image “#InOur20s” and “#idiots.”

Elliott hasn’t yet responded to his buddy’s little jab, but it’s obvious that the pair have grown a great friendship that even led the NASCAR driver to earn roles in Blake’s music videos for “Ol’ Red” and “Some Beach.” We spoke with Elliot at this year’s ACM Awards and he told us, “I learned a lot about country music videos on those sets, good and bad, but I had a good teacher with Blake Shelton and I’m so glad he let me be a part of that.”

With Blake’s busy touring and taping schedule, and Elliott still running that No. 1 Chevy Camaro for JR Motorsports, it doesn’t sound like the pair have much time to relive their wild and wooly 20s, but if we have a vote, we’d love to see them collaborate on a new music video. Maybe “Friends” from Blake’s “If I’m Honest” album.
