Amy Grant and Vince Gill have been married for 16 years, so they’ve got their Christmas routine down pat by now. When they’re not playing a string of sold-out holiday shows together at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Amy tells Rare Country she’s the one doing most of the Christmas shopping and decorating around the house.

Amy says with a laugh, “Christmas Eve, I’m wrapping, and he’s already asleep.”

Vince enjoys their holiday family time, though.

“If you are around him very much, he’s great just to be,” Amy says. “He’s not someone who’s going to talk your ear off. He will have the funny line. He more just kind of circles around, sticks his nose in, ‘Hey, I sure like the sounds coming from this room. I’m the happiest guy in the world.’ But, he’s not in the fray.”

Amy goes on to say that she usually pops open a bottle of champagne, puts on some Nat “King” Cole Christmas music and decorates the Christmas tree by herself. An audience of one is exactly who Amy had in mind when she made her new holiday album, “Tennessee Christmas.”

It features a new version of her signature Christmas song for the title track, and there’s a fun, flirty duet with Vince on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”

“Tennessee Christmas” is the fourth proper holiday album of Amy’s career, and it grew out of a suggestion from Vince. They had considered a Christmas album together, but he wanted her to do a laid back “fireside” Christmas album.

Amy tells us, “Because of having so many opportunities for Christmas shows [in Nashville and on the road], I decided to make that record. Rather than it be a fireside sounding, the real heart behind it was to make a record that would feel energy appropriate for an audience of one. It’s not that some songs didn’t get big, but it always felt like it was being sung for an audience of one.”

If you’re looking for a physical copy of Amy Grant’s “Tennessee Christmas,” you can find it at all Cracker Barrel locations this holiday season. It’s also available digitally on all outlets.
