She’s been the picture of health, a virtual spitfire, often sharing her workout routines and nutritious meal prep on her social media pages, which made it even more shocking to hear that Jo Dee Messina is battling cancer.

A representative for Jo Dee shared the news on her Facebook page, and while there aren’t a lot of pertinent details, the spokesperson does say that the diagnosis was recent and that her summer had been quite difficult.

“On her lowest of low days, she has been able to see God’s hand at work and feel His love as she continues her walk,” the Facebook statement says. “It is because of our Father’s love that she has been able to find the beauty in the days that could have brought her the most fear, gratitude in moments that most would call unfair and companionship during times she might feel the loneliest.”

The post also states, “We don’t know anything specific regarding the treatment plan at this point, but Jo Dee is working closely with a team to explore all options. She has taken the semester off from classes at The King’s University [in Southlake, Texas], and her last tour date for the year will be October 7 (all other 2017 dates are being postponed), as she will begin cancer treatment this fall.”

Jo Dee has been more than the picture of physical strength. In the past, she maintained a heartwarming and heartbreaking blog, chronicling her mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s and the emotional toll it took on her as her mother’s caretaker. She also previously authored a parenting blog. “The Fumbling Mom.” Jo Dee and her husband of 10 years, Chris Deffenbaugh, are the parents of sons Noah, 8, and Jonah, 5.

In addition to studying for her theology degree, Jo Dee has been working on new music.

We’re sending truckloads of healing thoughts and prayers to Jo Dee.
