One of the crazy things about social media is that it opens up the private life of country music artists like never before. We see our favorite artists go everywhere from the dentist to the delivery room via pics and tweets. At the same time, their family members find themselves thrust into the spotlight.
Just ask Brittany Aldean.
Or Lauren Akins.
Or Ryan Hurd.
Because while Ryan is well on his way to country music stardom all on his own, his relationship — and now engagement — with Maren Morris has opened up his life to the world. And sometimes, he’s not so crazy about that.
“I’m not shy with my friends, but I don’t overshare,” Ryan told Rare Country before his recent performance at Windy City Smokeout in Chicago. “I like talking to people, and joke around on Twitter and stuff, but I’m very much more reserved than a lot of people. I like to have a little bit of mystique and a little mystery there. I don’t like to take selfies. That’s just not what I do. I under-share, and it kind of gets me in trouble sometimes.”
The spotlight seems to have become a topic of discussion between Ryan and Maren as of late.
“There are parts of this world that are not for sale for me,” Ryan explains. “There are parts of our life that are just for us. There are things we won’t talk about. There are things we won’t put up pictures of. Even our engagement stuff — we have photos of the day it happened but those are ours. We had our photographer come take photos in Chicago when she was here last weekend to get some candid ones so we could announce it.
“It’s interesting, and it’s something that the two of us always have to navigate,” he says. “[Maren] is so good with her public image and so great with talking with her fans and being out there, and I am a little more like … I just like having a little more mystery there. As a dude, that’s just where I am. Maren and I are already very public about our stuff — there are just some things we will keep to ourselves.”
