Believe it or not, it wasn’t too long ago that Kane Brown got virtually no respect from the country music genre. People seemed to scoff at the kid’s bathroom covers on YouTube and his unconventional country look.

Yet, those times are now officially behind him.

In the ultimate seal of approval by the genre as a whole, Kane stepped onstage at the 51st Annual CMA Awards on Nov. 8 with none other than host Brad Paisley for an electric version of Brad’s song “Heaven South,” impressing just about everyone, including Brad himself.

“I get to bring someone out for their debut on the show that I have absolutely no doubt is a lifer — is somebody who will spend his life in country music,” Brad said of Kane in a recent interview about the performance. “This is someone who’s so talented. He’s setting the world on fire. To be able to usher someone new onto the stage that I believe so strongly in is really an honor.”

In a sweet sign of honor for the country legend, Kane even wore paisley down the red carpet in homage of his duet partner. He shared a pic of him and his fiancée before the show on his Instagram page.
